Volition’s free-range Martian explosion-fest, Red Faction: Guerrilla, is on sale this week over at Direct2Drive. From now through next Friday, February 5, you can pick it up for 75% off of the regular price. In the US that means it’s only five bucks. You may want to read a few reviews first, because while it’s widely considered a very fun game, it’s also gotten some bad press about the PC port’s performance.

Red Faction: Guerrilla (US)$9.99 $4.95
Red Faction: Guerrilla (UK)£34.95 £8.95
Red Faction: Guerrilla (EU)49,95€ 12,50€

Note that it’s possible for UK + Ireland people to buy the dollar version from the .com site, making it even cheaper!

Runs fine for me, but I’d advise making sure that you’re signed into GFWL when you start the game (hit [Home] to check) – I wasn’t, and suddenly found that I was unable to save several hours of progress. :(

Yeah, that particular ‘feature’ of Games for Windows LIVE is extremely annoying.

Besides that though, I’m having a blast with RFG so far. The performance issues aren’t nearly as bad as I had heard, and it runs significantly smoother than Saints Row 2 on the same PC.

Running around Mars with a big-ass instakill hammer and an armload of remote-controlled explosives is, as it turns out, exactly as fun as it sounds. I have trouble completing my missions though, because I end up getting distracted and just destroying EVERYTHING in sight.
